Prabhu,
In my experience, setting up Gitorious is about as easy on any major Linux
distribution. My impression is that Ubuntu is the most common one, maybe
because this is well documented:

- Christian's continually updated install guide:
http://cjohansen.no/en/ruby/setting_up_gitorious_on_your_own_server
- Rodrigo's chef recipes:
http://rosenfeld.heroku.com/en/articles/2011-03-06-installing-gitorious-has-never-been-so-easy
(Others will fill in more here, I'm sure)

There are various efforts in packaging Gitorious for different
distributions; I think there are packages for Arch Linux and OpenSUSE.

One thing to consider is that you will need to keep Gitorious updated and
patched once you've set it up, and this is easier if you know the
distribution you're using to run it on. A FreeBSD expert will probably
prefer FreeBSD on his server, others will recommend Centos. You should
consider both aspects:

- ease of installation
- your ability to keep supporting your installation down the road

Cheers,
- Marius
