Ken, Thanks for investigating this! The feature/rails3 branch does in fact relax the requirements for a valid username (specifically allowing dots in usernames), so that would be a good place to start. >From the top of my head I really cannot think of any reasons why we shouldn't allow @-signs in usernames.
