Hi Matt, The version from Feb 2011 is some 1.x version. There's no easy upgrade path from 1.x to 3.0. What you can try is first upgrading to 2.0, then using this guide https://gitorious.org/gitorious/pages/Upgrading for upgrading from 2.0 -> 2.1, from 2.1 -> 2.2 and so on. Then the upgrade from 2.4 to 3.0 should possibly work. There's other option you can try: setting up a fresh Gitorious 3.0 instance and importing all the repositories to it (first adding projects and registering users manually).
