HEY GUYS! RIva here- I hope you are all having an easy and meaningful
fast.
Snaps to Hannah for correctly explaining why we fast today- Gedaliya ben
achikam, the leader of the Jews, was killed and all the Jews who had been
living in Eretz Yisrael even after the first Beis Hamikdash was destroyed were
all forced to move to Egypt. Can you imagine how horrible and depressingt hat
was for the Jewish ppl? Try to imagine for a minute what it must have felt like
to have NO JEWS living in EY anymore...it must have been very disheartening to
the entire Jewish ppl, and it probably left them with very little hope of ever
returning our land. If anything, it just makes us appreciate EVEN MORE that we
have the opportunity in our day and age to greet flights of Nefesh Bnefesh
olim, and to watch as many many Jews return to our national homeland! Let's
appreciate EY and not take it for granted that we had the wonderful opportunity
to spend 5 incredible weeks there together this past summer! BH!
Anyways, have an easy and meaningful fast! Live up these Aseres ymei
teshuva (AYT) like never before! I once heard a beautiful dvar torah (sadly, I
forgot who gave it) that the Monday of AYT represents every Mon of the yr, the
Tues of AYT represents every Tues of the yr, etc... By doing as much chessed
and as many mitzvos as possible on each day of the week of AYT, we can do
teshuva and correct for the mistakes of every day of the week of the entire
past yr. GO FOR IT and be all that you can be! May you have an inspirational
AYT and Yom Kippur, and may all your tfilos be answered for the good!
Love,
Riva
