Dear GKD Members,
Computers, multimedia & TV mass media have greater motivating factors in
the lives of people irrespective of differences & disparities. The Delhi
example is a very good one on the positive impact of ICT. When people,
in general, expect all will be done with computers, there will be some
disappointments of their expectations. Even our site engineers expected
the same, when we introduced computers at construction sites, they
expected all solutions through the machines. The issue is we have to
consolidate the initial acceptance to much more purpose. Further
deliveries (of customer demands) should me met out soon, or they may
lose interest, or we may not be able to maximize benefits. Say for
example, I was one of the very few bugs (we seldom leave) of the computer
centre (only two of that type in the country that time) of late
seventies. But, I was away from computers for many years. I see the
Delhi computer kids in me or vice versa. We have to consolidate &
reinforce further the effects.
The story also tells a sad part, the contrast, the environment... ICT
should ultimately lead to high quality of living & life, as
education (higher order) is to liberation. We have to plan an integrated
approach as bundles of benefits, especially when it comes to poor &
underpriviliged, not just the information, but beyond what information
can fetch.
With high regards,
