Dear Friends, I am Ransirimal Fernando, a Sri Lankan living in Canada. We have an organisation of Sri Lankan Academics from almost all parts of the world at Lanka Academic Network. In fact we were instrumental in bringing interent email to Sri Lanka, by maintaining a dialup link between a US collection point and a computer located at the University of Moratuwa. You can read all about us at www.lacnet.org. We also publish a news paper on the net which updates 24 hours a day to bring latest news about Sri Lanka at www.theacademic.org. Other main direction we are working towards right now is taking the technology to rural and disadvantaged areas in Sri Lanka. We have been working with Nivanthaka Chetiya Maha Vidyalaya, Anuradhapura to establish a computer lab there. Currently a project is underway to setup another computer lab at a vocational school in a disadvantaged area in Colombo. http://www.lacnet.org/wired. Personally I have been very interested in the Kothmale Radio project. However up to now I have been unable to contact anyone who were directly involved in this project. One way we can help right now would be by getting the message about this project to everybody. So if I can get a report from sombody who knows the exact current situation well with some contact details I will promise to try and get the maximum exposure for it among our readers and volunteers. In the long run we might be able to share our resources since we have a quite a number of professionals in communication/IT/Computer fields in our folds. Thanking you, -Ransirimal ------------ ***GKD is an initiative of the Global Knowledge Partnership*** To post a message, send it to: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To subscribe or unsubscribe, send a message to: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
