Research (FWO), the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the

International Trade Union House in Brussels.

Confirmed keynote speakers: Saskia Sassen (University of Chicago), Luc
Soete (Maastricht University), Brigitta Young (Munster University).

This is a follow-up to the highly successful conference Where in the
World: eWork Location in a Digital Global Economy, organised in Budapest
in October 2000 by the EMERGENCE project
<http://www.emergence.nu/events/oct.html>

The introduction of new information and communications technologies and
the spreading of eWork throughout our economies has been accompanied by
major changes in the organisation of the local and global economy within
and between European regions, and globally. As a consequence, we can not
only observe major shifts in the location of employment, but also the
implications this has on the organisation of the workplace, working
conditions and individual workers around the world. However, these
changes, underlying processes and consequences are often poorly
documented. By presenting recent research material and confronting this
with views from more theoretical and policy oriented experts, the
conference will try to put the debate into a more empirical perspective
based around three subthemes: the world, the workplace and we, the
workers.

The conference will bring together experts and policymakers from all
over the world and will include presentations of recent research
material and addresses from leading experts on globalisation and ICT

WWWe will be a unique event which will lead to a better understanding of
processes that affect daily (working) life around the globe.

The conference will also give the opportunity to experts, both academics
and researchers, to present papers on elements within this debate.
Interested organisations or individuals are explicitly encouraged to
send an abstract or paper proposal of up to 200 words as soon as
possible to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
