Call for Applications: e-business training for IT-consultants in
Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Dear GKD Members,

There is a call for applications for a four year comprehensive
e-business training programme for IT consultants employed in Cambodia,
Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The programme -
called IT@ASIA - will be launched in April 2002 by the German
development aid organisation 'Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft - CDG'. It is
financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and
Development.

IT@ASIA will focus on SEA multiplier institutions involved in IT and
business training and/or consultancy services. The beneficiaries might
be IT training institutes, business training institutes, consultancy
institutions, Internet Service Providers, Chambers of Industry and
Commerce, etc.

>From 23rd March to 29th April 2002 CDG will arrange workshops in
Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam at which
interested enterprises and institutions involved in IT consultancy can
discuss their participation at the IT@ASIA programme.

Interested institutions should contact CDG in Germany as soon as
possible. Contact: Mr. Siegfried Karwatzki; email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
More information and an application form: http://www.it-in-asia.net

The programme:

The IT@ASIA programme aims to provide the participating multiplier
institutions with state-of-the-art know-how in e-business. Through this
it is intended to support practice-oriented IT related consultancy
services in SEA and to help to disseminate know-how and experiences
within the participating countries. In addition, cooperation between the
participating institutions in SEA and partner institutions in Europe and
Africa will be supported. CDG has launched already a twin projekt -
IT@AB - in five African countries of the 'Southern African Development
Community' (Malawi, Tanzania, Namibia, Zambia and South Africa) in
autumn 2001: http://www.it-ab.net

IT@ASIA includes practice-oriented workshops on e-business in SEA and
Germany, a one year internship for junior consultants in German IT
companies and Web-based courses. In addition both enabling applications
and e-learning courses on e-business will be provided for further
commercial exploitation through the partner institutions beyond the
IT@ASIA project.

A cornerstone of IT@ASIA is the one-year training programme in Germany
for junior consultants who are employed by the participating
institutions. The programme will offer advanced professional training
and on-the-job training within a German IT company. This It@ASIA
programme module includes a four-month intensive German language course.
The programme will also support selected e-business projects in SEA as
part of its curriculum.

The sustainability of IT@ASIA is enhanced through tight links between
the curriculum and the e-business strategies and practices of the
participating institutions. So while working in Germany each junior
consultant will support an e-business project of his/her employer in
SEA. Curriculum development is therefore a joint activity of all
selected partners and the CDG at the beginning of the programme. The
selected e-business projects of the SEA institutions will become an
integral part of the curriculum and will be supported through out the
programme. Open Source based applications for e-learning, project
management, distributed publishing and collaboration will be introduced
and become part of the programme. The 'project productisation' strategy
of CDG will then allow the project partners in SEA to take over not only
the applications supporting the IT@ASIA programme but also the
e-learning courses on e-business as commercially viable products for
their businesses.

Regards, Leopold.
