Glade problems with 5.1

Hi,
   I have two problems with 5.1 which I do not have with 4.1:

        1) the "data" option associated with menu entries is gone.
           I found this very useful in limiting the number of 
           callbacks for checkbox menu items by giving one
           function with an arg.  Can this be put back in
           before 5.2?

        2) under 4.1 i got a "notebook_page_switch" event when
           first bringing up a window with a notebook in it.
           That seems to have stopped.  Is there a different
           event to use for that function?

I'd appreciate it if these two issues could at least be though
about before calling 5.2 "stable".
