Oops, missed that.
Looks like it that did the trick: it now instead falls over like this:
joyce:~/ghc-2.04/build/ghc/docs/users_guide: make user.tex
../../../literate/lit2latex -S -c -o user.itex user.lit
sh: /export/home/ferguson/ghc-2.04/build/literate/lit-inputter: not found
I'm guessing this is actually lit-inputter pining for a non-existant
"tgrind" (needed in 2.0N, but not by 0.29 ?), but it's not 100% clear to
me, by any means, from the error message. (lit-inputter is itself built
plausibly, certainly.)
