Hmmm, I thought I've tried "export TMPDIR=foobar" from the Bash cmd-line
before "make boot && make all && make install", but it was ignored
nevertheless. But I'm maybe wrong about this: Bookkeeping during
multitasking is not that easy for humans...

Nice offer, but it's not yet necessary: The FTP server still has 1.5GB
of free space. A rough estimate yields that this should be enough for
ghc's next 75 releases.

ELF is definitely not my native language, but I can't understand why
the binaries should get smaller by cutting the object files into pieces.
The enormous bloating is an even bigger miracle.
Any ELF-grandmasters out there to comment on this?
