unfortunately I did not succeed in installing GHC from source. Probably
I'm missing something. Here is a short summary of my trial:
gunzip < ghc-2.10-src.tar.gz | tar xf -
gunzip < happy-1.5-src.tar.gz | tar -xf -
mkdir fptools.sparc
cd fptools.sparc
lndir ../fptools .
./configure --prefix=$HOME/FP/ghc
<...>
checking for version of happy...
Happy version 1.4 or later is required to compile GHC.
I added the binaries ...
gunzip < happy-1.5-sparc-sun-solaris2.tar.gz | tar -xf -
<...>

Configuration done, ready to either 'make install'
or 'make in-place'.

make install
Configuring happy, version 1.5, on sparc-sun-solaris2 ...
/bin/sh: syntax error at line 1: `;' unexpected
make: *** [config-pkgs] Error 2
Now, I'm stuck. Any pre-XMas suggestions? I'm not in a hurry; for the
moment I'll stick to the binary version.
