You don't say which version of GHC you're trying to compile. If it's 3.02,
I'm surprised. If it's 4.01, I'm less surprised :-) (we haven't tested
4.01 on Alphas).
Try adding the line
GhcWithNativeCodeGen = NO
to your mk/build.mk file.
