You need to download the profiling libraries for GHC in order to use
profiling. If you're using GHC < 4.00 then these are probably available on
the ftp site, for GHC > 4.00 you'll have to build them yourself (profiling
is a little flaky in GHC 4.xx, as we're re-implementing it).
