Readline in GHC-4.02

Has anyone got this combination to work?  I've tried quite hard on
sparc-solaris, adding the lines : 

GhcLibsWithReadline = YES
ReadlineIncludePath = [...]
HAVE_READLINE = YES

to build.mk, but in the end I am thwarted by
ghc/lib/misc/cbits/ghcReadline.c
which (1) #includes a file "rtsdefs.h" which no longer exists; I've tried
replacing that with "Rts.h" and find (2) that the linker cannot locate the
function "performIO".  (And nor can I.)
