I think there are several places that don't use the 'quotes' function
unfortunately, but this will be a good opportunity to make it
consistent.

I quite like the `' style of quoting, but it depends on the font.

Actually, if we're going to do this, we might as well go all the way and
colourise our error messages or at least embolden keywords, depending on
terminal support of course.
