Ah, when I rerun my tests, it seems that I can only reproduce the
brokenness in ghc 6.8.2. I guess it must have been fixed in ghc 6.10.1. I
was sure that I'd tested it in ghc 6.10.1, but I guess I must have made a
mistake. Sorry about the false alarm!
