I can't reproduce this on OS X with:

ghc -c SimpleJSON.hs
ghci
}}}
and then the commands from your ghci session. I don't know what's on p120
of the book, and couldn't easily find anything that looked right on the
website. Please tell us exactly what commands you are using so that we can
try to reproduce this.
