Actually, if it's all right with you I'd like to keep this ticket open,
just for the discussion period of the proposal.
I was aware of #3307; apologies for neglecting to reference it. I am of
course influenced by your and Duncan's comments in that ticket and on
mailing list. But I think it's useful to separate the two tickets:
- This ticket denotes a specific proposal which follows the library
submission procedure and should be accepted or rejected within the next
two week (In particular, before 6.12.1).
- #3307 is a bug report which I read as describing a path to a larger API
change, and will probably stay open for a while (its milestone is set to
6.14.1). Accepting or rejecting this ticket is only a small step towards
solving the larger !FilePath issue, I think.
