Hmm, I don't know if more work needs to be done in text mode now, but I'd
hope that binary mode at least would be just as fast.
Max, do you know what's going on, or do you think you will be likely to
have a chance to look into it in the next month or so please? If not, just
let us know, and Simon or I will see if we can see what's going on.
