Thanks. Yes, I think that part of the difficulty is that this ticket is
60 comments long; it dicusses more than one feature; for each feature it
discusses more than one design; and Simon and I are deeply under water
with other aspects of GHC, which makes it hard to devote attention to new
features.
So yes, start a new ticket. Write a wiki page that explains the proposal
you actually advocate (give links to other competing proposals you
rejected). Explain pros and cons. Add a link from
http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Commentary. Encourage comment on
ghc-users.
I must say that `\case...` looks more attractive to me, because there is a
clearly visible herald, using a keyword that otherwise cannot appear
there. And that point had become submerged (for me) in the detail of this
thread.
