 The attached patch (0001-Fix-GHCi-segfault-during-startup-on-
 PowerPC-2972.patch) has been tested on linux-powerpc, linux-i386 and
 linux-x86_64. I ran ran validate on powerpc and x86_64.

 I emailed the haskell@h.o and haskell-cafe@h.o mailing lists asking for
 people interested in powerpc on other OSes (eg *BSD and darwin) to help
 test and have not received a response. I suspect that this patch may break
 darwin-powerpc, but have no way of testing it.

 My feeling is that the patch should be applied and if it breaks darwin-
 powerpc then we (I volunteer to help) fix it. Does that sound sane?
