I've fixed this bug in CVS quite recently, so getting the newest STABLE branch from CVS should make this work.
Alternatively, you can work around it by adding SplitObjs=NO to your mk/build.mk, but be aware that the resulting compiler will generate multi-megabyte executables for things as simple as "Hello, world.".
