I ordered one pair of reading glasses (-10.5) from goggles4u and
something is wrong with them. My guess is that perhaps the PD is off,
although I used the same PD as for the glasses I ordered from Zenni.
They look OK, not great, and I could use them in a pinch, but not for
long periods of time. My guess is that perhaps they didn't see my
note that I provided my reading PD, thought it was my distance PD, and
subtracted 3. The glasses look OK, a bit like the 2 for $99 ones you
get from For Eyes, but not great. I may try again as they have a
frame I like the looks of, and will post on how that turns out should
I place the order.

As for Zenni...well, I'm delighted they are in business, and the
glasses I've ordered have been very good optically, but they are not
attractive. Given the strength of my prescription, and the price of
Zenni glasses, I didn't expect miracles, but the last two pair
(reading, -10.5, and "computer", a bit stronger) were a bust. They
rounded the edges of the lenses, which makes the glasses look like
Coke bottle glasses from a prison dispensary. Of course, For Eyes did
the same thing to a pricey progressive pair I bought from them, so
maybe it's the latest trend? If so, the trend needs to die. (There
was no reason for the rounding--the arm would fold without it, and the
lens is no where near touching my face.) Furthermore, the reading
glasses frame looks like something you would find in the dollar store,
the hinges make strange noises and don't quite line up right, and the
finish looks like it was painted on. (Hmmm...maybe they used lead
paint and that's why customs is holding up orders?) These were the
frames (in clear brown):

In retrospect, I made a bad choice because (a) they're square lenses,
which isn't good with a thick lens, and (b) the frame was a little big
for me. Oh well, only $18.95 plus shipping wasted and I have a pair
of spare glasses for reading in bed.

As for my others from Zenni:

I got these

made up as spare distance glasses (-13.0) to leave in my car. Cost was
$17 plus shipping. They look OK (I got the tortoise) but the finish is
a bit uneven. Still for $17, I'm happy, and I can see well with
them. If being out in the heat and cold for a year kills them, I'm
fine with that, and I wouldn't be with even a $50 pair for For Eyes.
(People with good vision may not understand leaving spare glasses in
the car, but when your eyes are in the -13 range, you worry about
breaking your glasses and being stranded. With vision like mine, you
absolutely cannot drive without glasses (heck, finding the car without
glasses would be difficult), and tend to want to have extras
everywhere--at work, in the car, and at home.)

I ordered sunglasses last year, and they turned out OK, so I've
ordered another pair in a different style and also reading
sunglasses. When I get them, I'll let you know how they are. Last
year's looked fine, because with sunglasses it's harder to see how
thick the lens is.

Finally, I tried ordering computer glasses by splitting the reading
and distance prescription, and I'm not happy with the result. I do
better with a straight reading prescription for computer work, but
possibly I've got the monitor closer than is generally recommended.
Not sure these will get much use, and with the rounded edges they are
ugly.

Note that I've just been ordering plastic frames, because given my
prescription I've had trouble with metal frames with nose pads. (Too
heavy, and I get "dents" in my nose that hurt.) I've seen metal
frames from Zenni that look great. The plastic ones -- at least in
the $8-$12.95 range, don't look all that good. If they ever have any
small frames in the more expensive line, I'll given them a try (with
higher index lenses) and see how they are. (That's my other Zenni
complaint--not many frames in the 125-128 width range.

So, the bottom line is that Zenni is a reasonable source for backup
lenses for extremely nearsighted people, but not for your main pair.
And, you can't get bifocals or progressives. As I noted above, you
can order, them but the order will be cancelled, at which point you
have to ask them to credit your account (which they did, promptly).
