Ok.. Here is my experience with a new player: www.elegan.cn I am extremely nearsighted: 12.00 /12.25 zeroes on everything else, live in Canada, used to glass lenses.
I had been trawling the international sections of Ebay for a Korean frames supplier who could be persuaded to add Rx lenses (aside: Ebay proscribes RX lens sales on it's sites) No luck yet on Korea, but found some very simple listings for fashion frame knockoffs, from China. www.elegan.cn So I visited their site.. found a nice set of "Tag Huers" - rectagular, short height, metal frame, nose pads - (I have a narrow nose bridge that rules out most plastic frames) After much back and forth, I ended up with a complete order with (quote) index 1.67, color distribution 32, UV 380 1.35g/cm3, anti-reflective coating resin lenses imported from Korea Daemyung Optical Co.,Ltd, Korea. lenses for US $95 total inc shipping by paypal. As a bonus, I was on vacation in Japan and they re-routed the delivery there, so that I had a spare pair and could calm down. They sent them EMS, so they arrived fast. (Laugh not - while bicycling in Japan a bee hit my face, I slapped at it, banged the glasses, lost control, executed a slow spill and mercifully caught the glasses before they hit the pavement. And yeah.. had a cord on them, but it snapped..) Ok! So the Chinese Tags fit well, and work, and the RX is on, and the frame is well made, so that's nice.. Only one little quibble: I had asked for glass. At the last moment, their lab insisted on doing the glasses with resin lenses, as they were convinced the glass was too heavy.. I usually hate plastic lenses, but these are nice, so maybe I will revise my opinions. Still looking for a Korean supplier, because the Koreans do high Index mineral glass really, really well and at great prices, but these guys are worth looking at.. Their frame catalog has a good number of tolerably well designed frames, as opposed to the great slew of butt ugly fashion mistakes that one sees in a lot of low -cost frames shops. Cheers..
