I placed an order for two pair of reading glasses (single vision,
-10.5) on February 8. When I inquired about the order approximately 3
weeks after ordering I got a prompt reply saying that my glasses would
be shipped from the lab in 3 days. They came today (March 16).

My guess is that the original order was lost somewhere, and these were
made and shipped directly after my inquiry. My other orders from
Zenni have come via mail from California. This one was shipped DHL
from Jiangsu Province in the PRC, and the DHL delivery person rang the
doorbell several times and waited for an answer instead of just
leaving the package. Here's the interesting part: The declared value
for customs was $1 per pair, the description of contents says "optical
frames", and the "Reason for Export" is "Sample". Strange, no?

However, the glasses are terrific. I generally wear plastic lenses
because the weight of the lenses on the nose pads causes sore spots on
my nose, but I ordered 4508 -- a metal alloy frame -- for part-time
wear. And, as a test of the value of paying extra for higher index
lenses and getting anti-reflective coating, I bought one standard 1.57
mid-range pair ($18.95) and one 1.61 high index pair with anti-
reflective coating ($31.90). I couldn't quite bring myself to pay
another $20 (total of $51.90) for the 1.67 index. I can't see any
difference in looks between the anti-reflective coating pair and the
other one, and I don't think people with a less extreme prescription
would find the upgrade from a 1.57 to 1.61 worth the cost. If I can
get a decent picture of the two pair side by side, I'll post it.
There's clearly a difference, but not that much -- one pair is roughly
6 mm thick at the thickest part of the edge, and the other is roughly
8 mm.

I'm impressed by the look of the frames, and if I don't have too much
problem with the nose pad/weight/sore spots on my nose issue, I may
try ordering my distance glasses (roughly -13.0) in the 1.67 index.
As always, the optics are spot on. The metal frame looks like the
pricy B&M metal frames, whereas my acetate glasses always look more
like they came from the dollar store.

I just wish Zenni would start making progressives in my prescription.
I'd order several pairs.
