Starting with the 2006 Consumer Reports (November?) article, I became
intrigued with buying glasses online.

The process was not easy. This forum helped a lot. The responses to
my first post (especially by Ira and Paul) were very helpful.

Getting the PD was hard at first. All of the private optical places
I'd gone to before refused to give it. On the other hand, all of the
Walmarts and Costcos I went to gave it to me.

Eyebuydirect had numerous frames close to my size, however not in my
preferred color. As a mid 50s boomer with greying temples, I no
longer go for silver or gold frames. I prefer brown or amber colored
frames.

Frames Direct has a dark brown Charmont Titanium Frame for a decent
price. They also had a $10 off coupon.

Costco's lenses were cheaper than Frames Direct. Also the Frames
Direct return policy has definite limitations. Fortunately the frames
fit great (49-19-140 was close to my 49-20-135 pair) and the Costco
lenses were very compatible. Costco had a turnaround time of 7days on
the lenses.

It was not the buy of the century, but it did save me quite a bit.
You gain confidence when you learn to do something that seems
bewildering at first.

Thanks to all of you!

Douglas
