If you don't use a memory metal frame, the temples can be shaped to
move the bend forward, closer up over the ear.  An optician will use
gentle heat to do this to plastic temples.  I have done it many times
with my own glasses, to move the bends rearwards and make the temples
effectively longer.

My newest glasses have memory titanium alloy temples, and it's a bit
frustrating to me that I can't reshape them for better fit.
