Anyone who has run across my previous posts realizes that I don't lightly praise a glasses source. In fact I have had more than my share of bad luck playing Zenni Roullette, for instance.
My two pair of glasses arrived 17 days after ordering them from EBD. I am VERY pleased with that turnaround, considering this was during their sale (I am sure their volumes were up) and I had pushed my luck with a special request. Two pairs of glasses for $97 shipped. That includes one "designer" frame, that fits better and is on par with the quality of the insanely priced frame I bought at the local shop. And one midrange "solid" frame that I plan to use for hiking, also fits well and looks like good construction. AR coating on both is perfect. I had "UV coating" added to the hiking glasses, which might be overkill but I do high altitude hiking and need max protection even on cloudy days.(they are clear) The UV coating did not cause problems. Script is spot on for both pair, even with my strong astigmatism and EBD does NOT charge a premium for higher Astigmatism, like $39G does. One pair is a "computer pair". I had the doc write the script for that. The other is for hiking on cloudy days and I requested a single side bifocal, which is NOT an option on the EBD form. This allows hiking on rough steep terrain, but still able to read maps and GPS. It took a couple of e-mails to figure out if they could do this and how to flag them I was doing this. Their customer support throughout the process was STELLAR. Quick responses and GREAT followup. And this was when they were undoubtedly overwhelmed with requests during a sale. My wife was more than sceptical about the internet glasses thing, especially after my first problematic attempts. She stated she is going through EBD for her future glasses....that is saying a lot about the positive experience. One interesting point. The storefront places emphasize the "personal fitting" aspect. I have tried several local shops, and noticed none of them bother with trying to fit the SIZE frame to the face, and usually they try to unload their slow movers. When I pick them up, they slap them on my face, ask "does that feel alright", and send me on my way. Of course with a new script and something that feels different, its hard to figure out if its just different or is wrong. They SHOULD be helping with that for their premium prices. So online, I can use the "overlay" software on some sites to at least check if the shape looks ok. I can figure out for myself if the measurements are right on any given frame for my face. And I can tweak the fitting myself, which is what I do with the $500 storefront glasses anyway. Yes, it takes a bit more effort on my part to order glasses and get it right. Yes, there can be a learning curve, buying internet glasses. But its worth it!! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Check us out at the oft-updated http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com!
