It's possible that your new prescription is too strong. I'm assuming
that your prescription is single vision for distance vision, and that
you're nearsighted. (If you have progressives, then what I'm saying
isn't so relevant.) Usually an eye exam is set up for the prescription
to be used for seeing at the maximum normal distance, so that you can
see clearly for driving, etc.. Most of the time we're looking at
things closer than that. "Getting used to a pair of glasses" usually
means getting the eye to adapt to using a full prescription at closer
distances. (There's a theory that says that this is a major cause of
kids getting more and more nearsighted while they're growing up.)

When you're driving with your old glasses, is there any difficulty
reading signs? If not, then I don't think you really need a stronger
prescription.
