Jeff,

I'm new at this also, but I just ordered a pair of tinted-lens glasses
to be worn as sunglasses. As near as I can tell, any regular frame
can be ordered with either tinted, polarized or photochromic lenses.
There are also some frames on some sites that are designated as
"sunglasses." They have a certain look to them that differs in style
from ordinary frames, and they're usually more expensive than ordinary
frames.

What I would to is make a little spreadsheet that lists each online
vendor, the cost of polarized lenses, cost of any additional coatings
you want, and shipping costs. Also list whatever discounts are
available, like the 5-15 percent discounts that Ira links to on the
left of the glassyeyes.com page.
That should give you a fixed cost for each vendor. The variable cost
is the cost of the frames, which will vary from vendor to vendor (even
if they happen to have the same frame in stock). Or, you may have a
frame in good condition in which you want to install new lenses.

It may be a bit of work to create the spreadsheet, but once you're
done you can easily compare.
