Hi all.
I've had my first purchase in hand now for a couple of weeks. I'm new
to glasses and I hate my Coastal Contacts purchase. Maybe I'm doing
something wrong.

The distance part of the lens is amazing and a treat to behold. I can
hardly express how good it is to have sharp vision for driving again.
I'm very pleased with that element of the glasses, but the progressive
end is problematic.

I'm aware of an adjustment period. I've not been able to discover
just what it is that's supposed to adjust over that period though.
After much trial and error I have come to believe that what I see is
what I get and it's not good.

At reading distance, the area in focus is terribly small. I don't
quite get three words on either side of my centre of attention when
I'm looking at a book page. Having to scan my head across to read a
standard novel type book size seems unreasonable and from what I
gather it's not what others experience.

I believe I set the glasses up properly when I got them in accordance
with the instructions and the pupil positioning stickers on the
lenses. Am I missing something here? I've tried moving them around a
bit, but so far nothing helps. I went to the drug store and bought
some reading glasses and they are a relief to have after diligently
fighting through what I'd hoped was an adjustment period for the
others.

Is it time to contact their customer service people or can someone
here think of some things I might need to know before going that
route?

The one wild card I proposed to the manufacturer was that my pupils
are not equidistant from my nose bridge. I had to phone in, at their
suggestion, after my order was placed, to have them record those
differences before all the information went off to the lab. There was
a full 3mm difference in those measurements.

I'm at a loss to explain my failure with these much anticipated
glasses and quite disappointed that I couldn't nail it down on the
first try.

On another topic:
The next ones I order will specify an ADD measurement to attain a
longer focal length for reading. My drug store specials are +125 and
I love them. How would I change the numbers on my prescription to
reflect the changes I want?
