I'm having so much fun with this! I came across glassyeyes.com via a google search for best glasses store, right after the link to a story about how the typical quick service mall stores produce a high rate of prescription errors. Ordering online sounded great, so I did.
I ordered myself a pair of polycarbonate rimless glasses for about $40 at coastal contacts, after going to Pearle Vision and finding nothing cheaper than $440 in rimless (that's after what my insurance would pay). Perhaps they were nicer frames...who cares? I could replace mine 10 times for that price! I also ordered my husband a pair for (drum roll please...) $7. total. And they look great! We both love them so much that I just went back and ordered another identical pair for him (so he can keep 1 in the car), plus another with sunglass tint, and a different style for myself. 3 pairs of glasses for $46 including shipping. Coastal Contacts is great, but you do have to spend some time shopping. Their website could use some work - for instance it would be helpful if you could sort by price and also save your prescription rather than key it in each time. The other online stores I checked out had better interfaces, but I found what I wanted at coastal. Thanks glassyeyes.com! I don't know that I would have actually ordered without having this site to break down the ordering process, provide retailer reviews, and the forum for other people's comments and questions. -- Check us out at the oft-updated http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com!
