I've had years of experience of picking out frames that won't look too bad with the strong correction (I'm almost as nearsighted as you, -7.00 & -7.50). I avoid the wide,rectangular frames that are in fashion these days and get frames that are less than 50 mm wide. I need progressives now and Zenni doesn't do progressives in high-index, so I took a chance when I ordered from them and got the mid-index in a metal frame that's 46 mm wide. They're not very thick at all, and the color of the plastic lenses sort of blends with the grey color of the frames so they don't look bad at all. They really look better than another pair I've got that's high index in a wider frame. Anyway, since I'm cheap and I prefer metal frames to plastic frames, I'm happy to know that I can get by with the mid-index lenses.
