Having found this site (Thanks, Ira), I have been very pleased with internet glasses ordering. I have done business with Optical4Less and JEMOptical and had great success.
Recently I needed to order some glasses and found that the Optical4Less site was (temporarily) down. GlassyEyes had a coupon for EyeBuyDirect, so I decided to give them a try. Here is what I found: 1) There is a $1.49 profit enhancer that they automatically add to every order. You have to opt out and, if you change the order, the profit enhancer is likely to reappear. So, remember that ordering is a whack-a-mole game if you do not want to be cheated out of $1.49. I missed the mole on the last whack, so I had to email EyeBuyDirect to have them remove the $1.49 from my invoice. This they did, after a fairly long delay. 2) The order form asks for $5.95 for Priority Mail shipping, which I paid. My first order took a week to arrive and came with First Class postage on it. As I discovered this, I had just placed a second order. So I emailed again, asking for a refund. I also asked them to make sure that the second order would be shipped via the method that I had paid for, Priority Mail. I was assured that it would. The refund was promised but now -- two weeks later -- it still has not appeared. 3) Today I received a shipping notice on the second order. The notice was unclear as to the method of shipment, so I inquired. Here is what I got: " ... we have checked with our shipping department and they confirmed receipt of our request to have your order shipped via USPS Priority Mail instead of First Class Mail. However, they informed us that when USPS had picked up the batch of orders, they still shipped your order via First Class Mail despite our request for it to go out via Priority Mail ..." So, if you do business with them, be sure to be on guard against their scams. (a) Whack the $1.49 profit enhancement mole every time it appears. (b) Expect to have the glasses take a week to arrive by First Class mail when you have paid Priority Mail (First Class is not even an ordering option). (c) Expect to email them once, possibly twice to get your shipping money refunded. Or, my choice, don't place any orders with this sleazy operation. Cheating once could be a mistake; cheating twice demonstrates intent. -- Check us out at the oft-updated http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com!
