This is what convinced me to try the online option..."We'll get these
back from the lab in about a week."

If they're being sent out to a lab to be made, then the doctor is mail
ordering the glasses!

Glasses are surprisingly simple devices. The frames hold lenses that
are customized for your prescription. That's it.

The hardest part of ordering online is getting past that initial fear,
and choosing frames that will be flattering. My suggestion to newbies
is to take a pair you like, get the measurements, and then try to
match up the style/dimensions with ones available at one of the online
retailers. It doesn't have to be exact, but use your old frames as a
starting point.

I discovered I looked good in frames between 48mm and 52mm wide, with
heights between 24mm and 32mm...shape should be either a very small
oval or as square as you can get, and as flat on the top as possible.
So, I took those requirements, looked online, and found something to
order.

My other recommendation is to start out cheap. I started with the $8
glasses from Zenni...logically it will either work or it won't, and if
it didn't work, then the Lion's Club would get an inexpensive
donation. Very little to lose, that way.

The glasses I got were perfect. I don't mean within tolerances...I
mean they startled my ophthalmologist with the accuracy and quality.
They were perfect.

Kinda' made me an evangelist for online glasses.

The best advice I can give you is to work up the courage, and just try
it with an inexpensive pair. There's so little to lose...and SO much
to gain from a successful attempt.

And, when you get them...be sure to post a photo. We love seeing
success stories.
