I am looking for a new pair of progressives to replace a pair that broke at the temple piece. (I LOVED those glasses, and the frame has been discontinued by EyeBuyDirect. Drat!)
So I thought I'd give 39dollarglasses a try. I've purchased at Zenni and EyeBuyDirect and wanted to see what other online retailers had to offer. I'm sorry to say that even though I found a large selection of frames that I really liked, 39dollarglasses didn't offer the high index progressive lenses (1.67) I was seeking. Zenni and EyeBuyDirect both offer these for a modest bump in price (Zenni $67 added to the cost of the frame; EyeBuyDirect $39+$67 added to the cost of the frame.) When I called 39dollar's customer number to see if I was doing something wrong, I was told that any high index lenses would be a "custom order" that could only be done over the phone. And the prices! Oy! Almost $300 added to what I was already paying ($89 was the price for the frame and the progressive, 1.58 index lenses.) With those kinds of prices, 39dollarglasses should call themselves LensCrafters. -- Check us out at the oft-updated http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com!
