Hi Kat,
It sounds like they put a light tint on, and may have forgotten the gradient.

If you set the glasses down on some nice "high" white paper and look
closely you should be able to tell if there is any gradient at all.

The return policy at that web store is kinda
hokey.http://www.greateyeglasses.com/shop/pages.php?pageid=4
it says you can return them for a 50% refund if you return them within
14 days. And then it says
"If there has been an error at the lab, or a defect in the eyeglasses
that has gotten by our quality control department, we will gladly
replace and ship them to you at no cost."

it's like there's two different policies at the same time
.
If you ordered a dark gradient tint and they didn't ship you glasses
with a dark gradient tint on it then that was their error in the lab.
I suggest you write them a letter stating that this was their error
and that you intend to return the glasses for replacement with a
correctly manufactured pair or a total refund. If you paid by credit
card you should be able to get a total refund by protesting the charge
to the credit card company, after you send the glasses back even if
the store doesn't agree to it. If you do send the glasses back with
this intention, be sure to get a receipt on the shipment. Also if you
are going to ask the credit card company to reverse the charge,(give
you your money back), you will probably have to send them a written
letter explaining the situation and documenting the fact that the
product was returned. Call your card company first and get the details
on what they expect to see for this type of request.

You may want to give them one chance, excuse me, one -more- chance to
make the glasses correctly. On the other hand it sounds like you've
already taken a beating from this.

Good luck with all this. I am not familiar with the store you used. In
fact I think this is the first time I have heard of them. I don't know
if glassyeyes has reviewed them or not. But I don't think they were in
his list of the best rated stores. If they are new then that would
make sense, and if they are new they may still be getting the kinks
ironed out, which would explain their screwup on your glasses.

Most, if not all, of the online stores will do gradient tints. if they
were having problems doing them I think we would've heard more about
that here in the forums. (Or I just didn't happen to notice those
complaints! :-))

The sites that seem to keep coming up with overall satisfactory experiences are
39dollarglasses.com
eyebuydirect.com
goggles4u.com
optical4less.com
zennioptical.com zennioptical seems to be a bit more varied in
quality/service than some of the others.

these last two guys are the short timers, which means they haven't
been around for as long as the others yet.
glassesshop.com
eyeglasses123.com

There is probably better information about these stores somewhere in
the forums. These are just my recent impressions.

Remember, first penguin over the cliff wins a lunch date with a sea
lion...try not to be first. :)
