I have used 1&1 since 2003 for domain-name registration (fonehelp.co.uk) and DNS forwarding only, linked to home servers and/or free hosts such as ProFreeHost at present, alias ezyro.com. Although as Ionos, 1&1 are not as cosy and cheap as they were under kundenserver.de, they're rock solid. The cost started at 1.99 per year in 2003 and is now 11.99 or one pound per month. Email forwarding is included but I haven't used it since 2012 when I got a free domain from Google (no longer available) and pointed my 1&1 MX at it to use gmail.
