Nope.

It's just a numbers game. It's not like an agent who gets 10% or 20% of your future earnings so it would be in their interest to get you an job. With most recruiters, they get a one-off fee for doing a not particularly good job.

I've been at the receiving end of what recruiters send in to employers, and they can't even understand the basic job requirements. It's like a hardware box shifting business but for people. Margins are low, accordingly so is the service.

There will be some good recruiters out there, but unless you are very, very well paid, the money isn't there to make it worth their while to provide anything but a basic service.

Also, employers just don't answer any more. They claim it's a legal thing so you can't pick them up on something and take them to court, but to me, it's just plain rude. On a first pass, I just reply that based on someone's CV, they do not appear to be suitable, but if they would like to re-submit a revised CV I would be happy to look at it, and to date, not a single person has.

As an employer who has used recruiters, CV matching services and advertising, I can honestly say that some of best employees I have found came from this list.

So while it may not be much solace to say "it's not you, it's them", it probably isn't you.

Cheers,

Marco

Hi, if you were represented by a recruiter (headhunter, recruitment consultant,
agent, or whatever they prefer to call themselves) for a potential job with an
employer, would you expect them to do everything possible to get feedback on
your resume, skills, experience, overall application, and suitability directly
from the employer after you'd been presented?
