Hello, I have been using a donated 3KVA UPS for a few years, known to be a poor design, known to be "OK" while running but prone to total failure on starting, and capable of taking out the entire mains supply to a building. I had to shut everything down last week, and it did fail on switch-on. I have also been given a Compaq R3000h-NDC version 242706-002, (not 242705-002), with flat batteries that has not been powered recently. This appears to be a better design, but a new set of 16 6V 12AH lead acid batteries will not be cheap. I would expect to be able to disconnect the old batteries and then connect mains power via a series connected tungsten lamp or fan heater and allow the capacitors time to recover before rushing out to buy new batteries. It looks as though it might be compatible with the Network UPS (nut) "UPScode II" driver, but I will need the correct serial cable. Does anyone have any expertise? Any advice welcome, thanks.
I am well aware that DC voltages around 240 volts are more dangerous than the same AC voltage because your muscles are more likely to clamp on, I was wrapping up after a day rigging in Kent when I was asked to provide a dressing for someone who had grabbed a handle which was live, and he had to lever his hand off. The entire palm of his hand was shredded and white. He said he just wanted to finish his rigging before going to hospital. -- Chris Bell www.chrisbell.org.uk -- GLLUG mailing list [email protected] https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/gllug
