Hello, Thank you for sharing the ideas. I have the same point of view than NCT, but I just want to add one thing. I am not as much an expect about GA than NCT, but I played quite allot with these.
-Some history about gloulation: You probably never tried globulation 1. At this time we didn't knew anything about GA, but it the idea where really to make one colony to evolve, why the player would set up some very general parameters. If we take GA as a very large field, we could include glob1 into it. Now the rigest question is: Where glob1 fun ? Oh yes it was! But maybe only for the developpers! It was like an experiment. We conceived a world, programmed it, and looked at it to evolve. There where no real game. As some game may end after hours, some may simply not end. When the player would change a parameter, you would only see the real results about one hour later. :D Well, as developpers we could see "symtoms" in "only" one or two min, but that's still long. What we can get out of this experience ? After long (years ?) of tought, we decided not to make another so much indirect game. But our goal was still to create an inexisting gameplay. We finaly ended in glob2 idea: The player decide "what", "where" and "how", but not "who". As NCT, I still belive there is a gameplay we can find around GA. Maybe a MMOGA, hehe ? If I had a second lifetime I would really like to try this with the gobulation concept. So if you have time, yes, why not making another branch ? Or another application using our framework ? What I suggest if you do what do motivates you the most. - Creature AI/behaviour You said some behaviour where stupid, right ? Can you describe and example or a saved game when we can see an explicit behaviour ? I'm still willing to make it better. Thank you! - About code comments Start to read: glob2/doc/sourceCodeUnderstanding.txt And then, yes, I am lazy. And I don't like to make unused documentation. But what I can do is answer your questions. And if you think one part of the code is not clear enough, just tell us. If you say that you will read some code, I'll add the needed coments in this very code.
