I don't mind splitting up turrets, so long as there is either an upgrade to have them attack both or simply a turret that attacks both. Personally I think the idea of not allowing explorers to attack buildings only units is the best option for balancing out explorers in end-game without removing their attack ability completely.
No, which are simply otherwise unstoppable, unless you're already very very close to victory. Current GAEs decimate your settlement many times faster than a warrior invasion. I wouldn't have a problem with simply making level 1 towers not attack air, leaving that to level 2 towers. I don't like the idea of having separate ground and air attacking towers, because the ground attacking towers take up almost too much space to afford on some maps already.
