If you are saying you can import HEAD and its history into Mercurial straight away, then no problems :D But its not worth if it requires a lot of work, espeically when the thing will break after being rewritten.

As we all know only part of the code and mangle part of it by our bugfixes and new features, it is extremely valuable to be able to look into the past. When we look at the time some code was implemented, we'll have a chance of finding out what it should do and whether this can still work (or repaired) inspite of our edits. Binary Search is very quick: With 13 tries you can find what you're looking for even with 4096 revisions.
