While I was thinking about the fact that we would have to remake maps due to this new system. Some people don't mind, others do. I was thinking of a way arround that. What takes the most time when making a new map? Well, the terrain for the most part. The terrain has nothing to do with the Headers, or any of that sort, I thought, infact its a very simple part of the Map data that hasn't changed since its creation, yet is the major time consumer in maps.
So, the solution: I will make a patch for Alpha 23 version that, upon save, will export a sort of half way file. This file will contain information about the terrain and ressources, and thats it. Fairly simple. Then I will include a feature in the mercurial version that allows one to import terrain data from this file. Again, fairly simple. Maps will still need to be remade, but instead of being hours, its a matter of minutes, export, import, and replicate the placement of buildings for the teams. And I'd be more than willing to do this for all the maps myself after the rewrite is complete. -- Really. I'm not lieing.
