The Greenies were, and probably still are, accused of wanting us all to go
back to the Stone Age and live in caves. I thought that was a slander, but
now I see it is our only hope!
Yesterday, the Liberal Democratic party, Britain's third party with
approximately 10% of the seats in parliament, voted to reduce income tax and
move to green taxes such as a carbon tax. In an interview before the vote a
member of the rival Green Party pointed out that this would be ineffective,
because it would not cut consumption.
I don't want to live in a cave, or even have everyone else living in one,
but the oil is running out. Our North Sea oil-fields are now empty, just
like those in the US. That is why we invaded Iraq. But the Middle East
fields will also be empty soon, and we will have to switch to a sustainable
life style or we are all doomed!
It is all very well dreaming that nuclear power will save us, but there is
just not enough fissionable material buried out there.
If Gore gets his way and the US freezes its emissions of CO2, that will be
at levels 10% higher than agreed by Kyoto. The Kyoto reductions were too
little, the Gore plan is even worse. But what about other nations who have
tried to meet their Kyoto targets. Won't they want to go up to the same
levels as the US?
I'll say it again - we are all doomed!
