The report is at http://www.dhf.uu.se/pdffiler/DD2006_48_carbon_trading/carbon_trading_web.pdf but at over 300 pages, is not something I fancy reading. Moreover, I don't think Gar Lipow, who wrote the comment, has read it either. His comment appears to be his own poorly thought out views on carbon trading, with no more substance than a skeptics views of global warming. Gar Lipow writes: "Each year we burn fossil fuels produced from plant matter that took 400 years to grow. From a greenhouse viewpoint, we need to reduce emissions by about 80% to 90%. ... If we are serious about greenhouse gas reduction, there simply will not be enough "emission credits" for sale to let us drive 9 MPG hummers." This seems to epitomise just how silly Mr Lipow's arguments are. If we are going to reduce emissions by 85%, then we will not be able to drive 9 mpg Hummers with or without emission credits! The second chapter of the report is headed "Made in America". This means that by adopting carbon trading the US would still be pursuing the American way of life, but without Hummers.. Cheers, Alastair. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Global Change ("globalchange") newsgroup.
