Lapdog science is big! According to several sources
in the United States, the top half-a-dozen industry science
shills get about half-a-million dollars per year. However,
that is from several companies on several issues. The
problem with exact figures is that the money is funneled
through front organizations set up by public relations firms.
One development that promises to shed light on the subject
was started by California's last attorney general. In a suit
against the auto industry, Mr. Lockyear subpoenaed records
of the auto firms dealings with a named list of known industry
lapdogs. This, and better enforcement of the 503(C) charity
laws now that the democrats have a say in Congress, may
clear up the cesspool a bit.

As a personal note: during my career as a computer scientist
I was offered money by computer manufactures for my
endorsement several times. One offer was almost my yearly
salary. This is way of the world, it seems. Those of us who
refuse take our part in it don't belong in this world, perhaps.
