"My Cabinet-level working group... ...have reviewed the facts, and
they have listened to many theories and suppositions."

Yes, but this time will they be taking on board theory instead of
supposition?

"Our administration will be creative..."

Surely that was part of their administration's problem with the
science before they changed their tune.

"Today, I make our investment in science even greater. My
administration will establish the U.S. Climate Change Research
Initiative to study areas of uncertainty and identify priority areas
where investments can make a difference. "

GOOD, if it means more cash for research.

It can only be a good thing that there is generally a politcal
consensus building on top of the scientific one. However, having
accepted the reality of the physical process of ehnahced GHG warming,
we are now in the realm of considering actual impacts. I really don't
think there is enough certainty on the practicalities of impacts to
motivate action.

Wally Broecker once talked about us prodding a sleeping dragon. Now
that we've established we are indeed prodding it, we're moving onto
whether we really need to stop rousing it. After all it might awaken
in a jolly and playful mood, and if it's convenient to believe
something, humans generally believe it.

PS There certainly seems to be an established acceptance of this issue
in the UK.
