While readers may think of globalchange as a relatively low traffic
list, moderators realize that about 99% of the submissions are from
spam robots masquerading as human nonmembers. The task of moderating
the list has become quite unpleasant.

Have a look at what I mean here:

http://mtobis.googlepages.com/moderatingagooglegroup

What you see there is what comes in during a typical hour and a bit;
we are getting about 20 times that amount daily and it is increasing.
Perhaps once or twice a week a posting arrives from a nonmember that
is even arguably on topic.

It therefore seems necessary to limit submission to this group to
enrolled members (using their enrolled email address).

None of the moderators is happy about this limit in itself, but we
will be pleased not to be faced with the task of picking the few
sincere items out of the vile sludge that the world's spammers are
spewing.

If anyone has comment, especially any serious objection or useful
alternative, please speak now. Most likely, the change will be made
this weekend.
